is it Berkley's? or Black Staining Polypore? or COW?
I had a few minuets free yesterday, so I thought, what the heck? I'll go check out a few of my spots. I haven't had much luck this year with Chicken of the Woods, so perhaps. . . . . .I'll make a separate post with the varieties & quantities of fungi I found, but this one really caught my eye! All VERY young and tender, no immediate bruising or discoloration, my instincts said a young Black Staining Polypore, but somehow i convinced myself that I had a young Berkley's. . . . . . . .
Then I got to my car and Mother Nature had to set me straight!
After cleaning I did some reasearch and found that the very young specemines can take up to 30 minutes to have the blackening discoloration upon bruising or cuting (I did not know that). BTW these were so young everything was so tender - it all shredded so nicely! going to make some delicious shredded tacos!
