Education

The Mid-Hudson Mycological Association’s educational mission is rooted in a simple but powerful idea: when people understand fungi, they begin to see the forest differently. Through expert-led forays, lectures, and events, we provide structured learning opportunities for everyone from curious beginners to experienced enthusiasts. Our programs connect identification skills with ecological literacy, helping members recognize fungi as essential partners in forest health and resilience.
We also promote citizen science and careful documentation, empowering participants to contribute meaningful data to broader conservation initiatives such as the Fungal Diversity Survey and iNaturalist documentation programs. By bridging amateur observation and professional research, MHMA cultivates not only knowledge, but stewardship—encouraging a thoughtful, informed, and sustainable human presence in the Hudson Valley ecosystem
