About Us

MHMA is a member-supported club for anyone drawn to the world of fungi — from curious beginners to seasoned foragers and field naturalists. Ethical practice and shared learning are central to what we do: we emphasize responsible foraging, careful identification, and deep respect for the land, habitats, and communities we work within.

We serve the Mid-Hudson Valley through guided walks, educational talks, workshops, culinary events, and citizen science initiatives that build real skills in identification, documentation, and ecological awareness. Members don't just attend — they contribute, with open invitations to join committees, take on leadership roles, and help shape the club's direction over time. Our structure is designed to keep the club transparent, sustainable, and shaped by the people who show up.

Purpose and Mission Statement

The purpose of the Mid-Hudson Mycological Association is to spread knowledge and appreciation of fungi while actively encouraging forest stewardship. We believe in the sustainable management, protection, and wise use of forest resources to ensure long-term health, productivity, and biodiversity for future generations in the Hudson Valley Region of New York.

We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to educating the public about the study and appreciation of fungi, while simultaneously promoting the scientific documentation and study of local fungal species and encouraging forest stewardship for all community members.
