I am not used to seeing this as a fruiting body, the top was the most beautiful slate grey and the gills were vibrant pink! I usually don't find this large of a flush of the un-aborted mushroom - and right along side were numerous aborted fruiting ("Shrimp of the Woods") - unfortunately we were a few days late and they were past prime.

FYI the "aborted" lumps or carpophoroid occur as a result of a parasitic attack against honey mushrooms (Armillaria) - and there were a ton of honey mushrooms where we were!

I found a wagonload of Stropharia rugosoannulata in my yard this year, from button sized to gigantic! Newburgh area.
