Sloan Gorge Preserve Mushroom Walk
September 5, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Woodstock Land Conservancy is teaming up again with
the Mid-Hudson Mycological Association and the 15th
Annual Hudson River Valley Ramble for a walk at Sloan
Gorge – a unique 88-acre preserve containing mixed
forests, vernal pools, old bluestone quarries, and
unusual geologic features. This is one of our most
popular and fun walks of the year. Experts and
novices alike will sharpen their sleuthing skills,
looking high and low for signs of fungi.
Learn the basics of fungi identification, knowing
which are safe and which are poisonous, as well
as the place of fungi in the ecology of the woodland.
A field guide would be a useful tool if available.
Please wear appropriate footwear for woodland trails
with possible scrambling over rocks.
It should be understood that the presence of fungi
is entirely dependent upon weather conditions
leading up to the time of the walk.
WLC’s First Saturdays on the Trail series brings
many local professionals to the trail to share
their passion for nature. These morning walks
are free and open to the public. Bring the kids along.
This event will cancel in the event of rain.
Please check our website and facebook page for updates.
