Location: Colgate Lake, Greene County

More Info: Please join us and bring your bathing suits!

…Colgate Lake, Greene County
Sunday, July 3, 10 am – 1 pm
Meet in the parking lot

Colgate Lake is located past Tannersville near E. Jewett in Greene County. We expect chanterelles. In fact, we think that the location is worth more than one walk the following week if conditions are good. We have found B. edulis, Lactarius hygrophoroides and chanterelles there in the past.

Please see the link for directions. Thruway exit 21 Catskill, then follow directions from the East.

The website above has a pretty picture of the lake itself. What it doesn’t show is the scenic view of the mountains across the lake (Thomas Cole and Blackhead Mountains).

This is a great swimming/family location. Bring the kids! If they tire of mycology, there’s always swimming.

Walk leader is Barbara Plume
Barbara.Plume@otda.state.ny.us

Hope to see you there!

Things to bring:
Mushroom basket and knife
Field guide
Water / food
Good walking shoes / sun hat
Bug spray
Bathing suit / towel if you’d like to swim

2010 Walks

July 3, 2010 Saturday

MHMA Oyster Basket Inoculation & 2nd Grain to Grain

I don't think the mycelium can wait any longer…  I have had to break it up twice so let's do this!

We will do a few things at this stage…

1). Prepare Straw and inocluate the straw basket

2). Grain To Grain Transfer With Remaining Grain Spawn

3). Use Leftover Plug Spawn To Inoculate Grain Jar

It requires a 2 hour pasteurization soak…  I am planning to get there around 9am to begin preparing the straw…  Once the straw is soaking I will lock up and go for a walk…  So I will call the starting time Noon and I am guessing we should be able to accomplish the whole thing in about 1 hour to 1.5 hours max.

Directions: The CORRECT address is 491 Glenford Wittenberg Road…  Write this down…  845.679.6901 Clubhouse phone number if you get lost… Cell phone coverage is nil at the clubhouse so call the clubhouse if you can't seem to find it.

July 11, 2010 Sunday POSTPONED Until August(?)

MHMA Clam Bake at the Wittenberg Sports Club

10:30 am – 5 pm

This is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Great location, great food, great walk. Mark your calendars…

Tickets are $35.00 in advance, $40.00 at the event. Ages 6-12 are $15 each, Ages 5 & Under – Donation

July 17th, Saturday – Wittenberg Sportsman's Club Clam Bake, Host/Leader Elmer LeSuer. Plan to spend the afternoon, as you are sure to enjoy this day! It's all centered around the Wittenberg Sportsmen's Club Annual Clam Bake feast with all the trimming's and live music in the Club's Sheltered Pavillion.

"Clam Bake" technically starts at 1:00 pm but we will have a pre-bake walk starting at ~10:30… For more serious shroomers, and a more "kid & novice" oriented walk mid-bake say around 3pm…

The event is rain or shine and make sure you bring your fish pole, binoculars and of course your mushroom basket, because there is a 30 acre lake (and a kid's fishing contest), a few hundred acres with plenty of prime mushroom turf to explore and the club grounds are open to all Clam Bake Guests in attendance.

The advance tickets are $35 each and must be purchased by July 7th. There will be a morning walk starting at 10:30, followed by a "Clam-Bake Break", at ~noon and then a different afternoon walk starting at 1:30. Join us for one walk, or make both… either way make sure you bring your appetite and try to bring at least one new person!

The food and drink is always great and plentiful, the band is a folksy country bluegrassy type band, and with any luck we will find some chanterelles… Other possibles are Oysters, Boletes, Chickens, and who knows what else! I guarantee we will find many different species!

This event is open to anyone club members and non club members… Really, it is open to anyone who buys a ticket… So invite friends and/or bring the family, I promise you will enjoy…

Contact Elmer LeSuer for more information or to reserve tickets.

Hurley Rail Trail
8:30 am – 12:00 pm

Host: Kelly Sinclair

HURLEY RAIL TRAIL Directions:

From the north and south: from the NYS Thruway exit 19 (Kingston) follow the
signs from the toll booth for "Route 209 South Ellenville". Once you are on
Route 209, set your tripometer 0.0…You will notice, once you pass over the
Esopus, that there is a paved bike path running parallel to Route 209 on the
left side of the road. At 2.2 miles you will go under the Hurley overpass.
Proceed another 1.1 miles (for a total of 3.3). The parking area for the
trailhead is where the paved bike path dives into the trees, almost hidden
in the woods to the left. If you begin to go downhill, you've gone just too
far…
