Walk at Gerry and Carol’s House
July 21, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Due to road work on Route 143, there is a somewhat long detour. For a shorter route, follow the detour onto Tompkins Road, take the 1st left on Blossom Hill Road, go to end and take a right on Blodgett Hill Road, then take the 1st left onto Stanton Road. The driveway is a little less than 2 miles on the right. There is a pull off with some piles of wood chips on the right after you pass 4 driveways. You can park in the pulloff and walk in the small driveway and down the hill to the house.
Sunday’s walk is behind Gerry and Carol’s house,
Please arrive around 9:30 so that we can leave on time.
The walk will commence promptly at 10:00 AM.Please, no dogs and there will be a potluck lunch after.
If anyone wants to bring a bathing suit, they can swim in the pond if they are brave enough (Gerry’s words).
Recommendations for hike participants:
Wear appropriate footwear for hiking on hills, rocks, forest litter and possible wet areas (no rocker style sneakers please). Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
Walks are held in areas typically infested with ticks. Wear appropriate clothing and/or use insect repellant to protect yourself from tick bites and possibly Lyme disease.
Walk leaders are there to assist members in learning techniques for identifying wild mushrooms. It is the sole responsibility of each individual to properly identify wild mushrooms they are going to eat. Some poisonous wild mushrooms can cause severe illness and even death. Edible mushrooms can cause reactions in some individuals, so whenever eating a new species for the first time, only consume a small amount to determine whether you have any reaction.
In addition to proper footwear and attire, bring a mushroom guide, a knife, basket, waxed paper bags, bug repellant, sun screen, water, sunglasses, a snack, a walking stick and some good luck!Directions
