Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area
August 19, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
No need for car pooling. Finally had a reason to get down there and check out the parking situation (I’m 105 miles away). Parking is at a dead end on Tyrrel Road with 6 spaces and room for 10-15 cars to park along the road.
If coming from the north – take the Taconic Parkway – Tyrrel road is 13 miles south of the Bulls Head road exit. Make a left and cross the median(be careful). Go to the end. About 1.5 miles.
If coming from the South – take the Taconic Parkway – about 7 miles north of the Route 55 exit (Poughkeepsie). Make a right and go to the end.
19 spots still available
Please reserve a spot. RSVP firstname.lastname@example.org Limited to 24 people – paid members will be given priority. There is limited parking. A carpool option will most likely be coordinated as 4 cars per parking area on Tyrrel Road. A park & ride site nearby will be decided upon. The 917-acre Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area is one of the largest state forests in Dutchess County. Most trails on this property allow multiple uses. It is very popular with mountain bikers, horseback riders, and dog walkers.
I will be scouting the area in the week prior to determine the best trails to travel and what Park & Ride area to meet at. We have found mushrooms there is the past. I’m hoping for a very good experience considering the two other times I’ve been here we were under drought conditions.
The terrain is relatively mild. Intermediate at worst for most of the area. Take precautions for ticks and mosquitoes.
