UPDATE

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Reminder: Please join us for a joint walk with NYMS
Date/Time this Sunday 8-30-15, 10am
Where: Beacon Train Station
Other: We would appreciate an RSVP. We will be picking up and transporting the NY club members from the train station . In order to coordinate with their club, we would like to know how many will be available to help.
Destination: The beautiful Stonykill Environmental Center

Other:Please leave your dogs at home for this walk. Dogs are not permitted at this site.

Recommendations for hike participants:

Wear appropriate footwear for hiking on hills, rocks, forest litter and possible wet areas (no rocker style sneakers please). Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
Walks are held in areas typically infested with ticks. Wear appropriate clothing and/or use insect repellant to protect yourself from tick bites and possibly Lyme disease.
Walk leaders are there to assist members in learning techniques for identifying wild mushrooms. It is the sole responsibility of each individual to properly identify wild mushrooms they are going to eat. Some poisonous wild mushrooms can cause severe illness and even death. Edible mushrooms can cause reactions in some individuals, so whenever eating a new species for the first time, only consume a small amount to determine whether you have any reaction.

In addition to proper footwear and attire, bring a mushroom guide, a knife, basket, waxed paper bags, bug repellant, sun screen, water, sunglasses, a snack, a walking stick and some good luck!

Don’t forget to pack a lunch to eat before we sit down to ID what we find!
This walk is open to anyone and there is no charge!

Joint walk with NYMS at Stonykill Farm Environmental Center, Wappingers Falls.  We’ll meet at the Beacon Train Station to pick up anyone arriving on the 10:15 train, then caravan to the walk site.  ID session and a picnic lunch will follow the walk.

Please let us know, ASAP, if you plan to attend this walk. If you do plan to attend, let Lisa (aristar94@yahoo.com) know how many people you can transport. We need this information so that we can coordinate this hike with NYMS.

If you haven’t been to Stony Kill it is a beautiful site overlooking an old farm, garden, and facing the mountains. The tulip trees there look like the redwoods of the east.
