Kanape Brook Directions

Kanape Brook is on the most Southern part of the Ashokan Reservoir.

  • Coming from Kingston Take Route 28A around the Ashokan Reservoir to Watson Hollow Road, a left hand turn, (County Route 42). You'll see a sign with multiple locations including Grahamsville. The third sign down says Watkins Hollow Road. It's about 8-10 miles, so keep following 28A.
  • Then go 3.75 miles to the Kanape parking lot (on your right). The red trail crosses the road just downhill of the lot and crosses a wooden bridge. Trail register is just beyond.
  • If you're coming from the north side of the Ashokan Reservoir you'll be making a right hand turn at the sign.

This walk is up a very rocky slope. Physical difficulty is advanced beginner to intermediate. Wear sturdy hiking shoes.

    Understand that people are busy, but this is the third attempt at communication. (The first was weeks ago.)  The previous comment disappeared.  Having trouble with the web site?  Anyway, is there a cost associated with the walk?  Is it an informative walk appropriate for beginners?

    Almost any walk is suitable for mushroom beginners. Sometimes the walk can be more strenuous than others.
